In order for kiwis to thrive, it depends on the right location and the right care. Of course, this also includes fertilizing.
Kiwis from your own garden are really something fine, because what comes from your own garden always tastes better. In order for many and above all beautiful fruits to form, you also have to take care of the kiwi plants a little. Among other things, you also need to fertilize them. But beware: you can do a lot wrong here. It is therefore best to always follow the instructions below. That way you don't have to worry that your kiwis won't bear fruit. How to properly fertilize kiwis
Fertilize kiwis in the first two years
If you have planted your kiwi plants in soil that is suitable for them, you usually do not need to fertilize them at all for the first two years. Therefore, always carry out a pH test before planting the kiwis in your garden. The result should then be between 4.5 and 5.5 at best. In addition, the soil should be quite humus and rich in nutrients. The plants can then draw the nutrients directly from the soil for the first two years.
Fertilize kiwis from the third year
You can start fertilizing your kiwi plants from the third year. It is best to use mature compost that you spread around the plants in spring. Alternatively, you can also use mineral fertilizers (rhododendron fertilizer).
Fertilize kiwis from the beginning of fruit formation
When the kiwi plants start to bear fruit, the plants need more nutrient-rich fertilizer. Then you have to fertilize with compost again in the spring. Although you can also apply mineral fertilizer (e.g. for ericaceous plants), great caution is required here, because you can quickly over-fertilize the plants. So less is more! A second fertilization during flowering is also recommended.
