If you think you don't have to pay attention to anything when planting vegetables, you are wrong. The planting depth is important so that tomatoes, cucumbers and co. thrive.
You might think that you can't go wrong with planting. Not even close! It really depends on the planting depth that you give the vegetable plants. Most vegetables must be planted so that the stem is not covered by soil and the roots are not showing. On the one hand, this prevents the roots from being exposed to the air, which can disrupt their functionality, and on the other hand, planting the stalk too deeply can cause the plants to start rotting.
However, one must note that this does not apply to all plants. Tomatoes and cucumbers, for example, are buried in the ground up to the first leaf. As a result, they can absorb more water and additional roots form, giving the plants more support.
You can tell the difference from the outside of the plant. Tomatoes and cucumbers have a firm stem, while lettuce and other vegetables don't.
