Tomatoes are a must in a good vegetable garden. There are many different tomato varieties and each one has special requirements that you have to pay attention to.
Provide light and warmth
Tomatoes need a lot of light and warmth. They should therefore have a sunny location. There are many different strains, and the claims may vary slightly.
Bush Tomatoes
Bush tomatoes grow very low, so they are well suited for the open ground, but also for the pot.
Stick Tomato
The stick tomato needs a climbing aid and can have different shapes.
Beefsteak tomato
You can get very large fruits from the beefsteak tomato.
Cocktail Tomatoes
With fruit tomatoes you have very small and sweet fruits. They are also called cherry or cocktail tomatoes. Their ideal location is usually in a greenhouse.
Care Tips
Very few tomato plants tolerate too much water. However, if the tomatoes are outdoors, they can also be protected accordingly. Use perforated foil tubes and put them over the plants. This gives you an effect similar to that of the greenhouse.
You should watch out for pests such as beetles and insects. These sit on the underside of the leaves and suck them out. They are usually aphids.
Late blight and late blight can occur in outdoor planting. However, this only occurs when the tomato plants have been wet for a long time or there have been heavy downpours.
