In the United States in particular, peanut butter is an integral part of an “American Breakfast”, which often consists of toast, pancakes and eggs. But peanut butter also often plays a major role in many cakes and sandwiches. No wonder, because peanut butter tastes really great. Even the King of Rock 'n' Roll, Elvis Presley, loved banana and peanut butter sandwiches.

The spread is also becoming more and more popular in this country. This is mainly because it not only tastes good on bread, but can be used in many different ways in the kitchen. For example, it can also be used to refine Asian or Caribbean dishes. The only problem: Peanut butter is pretty expensive compared to other spreads. But you can also save yourself the money, because you can easily make peanut butter yourself with just a few ingredients.

You need:

  • 300 g peeled and roasted peanuts
  • 2 - 3 tablespoons peanut or sunflower oil
  • 1 pinch of s alt
  • Sweeteners (e.g. sugar, honey or agave syrup)
  • possibly spices such as cinnamon, chili, cocoa or caramel syrup

Preparation:

❍ Step 1:

Place the roasted peanuts in a food processor along with the s alt. Add the oil and let the machine work until the nuts or the cream is nice and smooth and spreadable.

❍ Step 2:

The peanut butter itself is now ready. But you can also refine it with a few ingredients. For example with some sugar or agave syrup and a pinch of cinnamon. But cocoa is also great. If you want to give the cream a little pep, you can also add chili to the mixture. Just experiment a bit.

❍ Step 3:

When the cream is ready, pour it into a screw-top jar or another container that closes well. It will keep in the fridge for about two weeks.
