How to steam a pumpkin
» Step 1:
First of all, you need to prepare the squash for steaming. Simply remove the stalk and divide the pumpkin in the middle. Then you can hollow it out with a knife or spoon and remove the seeds and fibers.
Tip: You can keep the seeds and roast them later. This makes a delicious and he althy snack.
» Step 2:
If it's a Hokkaido pumpkin, you can leave the skin on. With other pumpkin varieties you still have to cut them off. Then cut the vegetables into cubes.
» Step 3:
Now heat some butter or oil in a large saucepan. Then fry the pumpkin very briefly over medium heat, deglaze with a little broth and then let it cook for 10 to 15 minutes with the lid closed.
Important: You don't need a lot of broth to deglaze because the pumpkin itself contains a lot of water. So you don't have to worry about caking.
» Step 4:
To top it all off, you can refine the taste of the steamed pumpkin in various ways. Tomatoes, onions, coriander, garlic, dill or leeks are suitable for flavoring. Sprinkle a few more roasted pumpkin seeds on top just before eating for a nutty aroma.
