Ginger is very spicy and has healing properties. Depending on the use, you should dry it beforehand. We'll show you how.
Ginger is ideal for refining Asian dishes. In addition, the tuber also has healing active ingredients. For example, you can use ginger tea as a remedy for colds and ginger can also help with rheumatism. However, you cannot use a fresh tuber for this (reading tip: Growing ginger - this is how it's done). Only dried ginger will do.
But you don't have to go straight to a store and buy it. You can also easily dry ginger yourself. You have two options: you can dry ginger in the air and you can dry it in the oven. Once it has dried, you can store it in a dry place for quite a long time and also process it further. After grinding, the ginger can also be used as a spice, for example. Of course, dried ginger is also a great homemade gift from the garden.
Introduced 2 ways to dry ginger
➤ Option 1 - Air Dry Ginger
If you simply want to let the ginger air dry, you must first cut the root into thin slices. You then have to place them on kitchen paper, dab them with it and then wait until the slices have dried.
It's usually annoying that ginger dries out so quickly in the air. However, you can now take advantage of this negative aspect.
➤ Option 2 - drying ginger in the oven:
It goes much faster and more reliably in the oven, of course. In this case you can also be absolutely sure that the ginger will not go bad during the drying process. This is how you do it:
Step 1 - Preheat the stove & cut up the ginger
Preheat the oven to 40 degrees. It is best to choose the recirculation setting. In the meantime, you can slice the bulb thinly.
Step 2 - dab ginger & place on baking paper:
You must then dab the ginger slices with a kitchen towel. Then place on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
Step 3- Put ginger in the oven:
We can't give you an exact time for how long the ginger has to dry in the oven, because it always depends on how thick you cut the slices and how fresh the root is. You should therefore check every 15 minutes whether the liquid has completely escaped from the ginger. However, this can take quite a while. So you need some patience.
If no more liquid comes out when you press the slices, you can turn off the oven and take out the ginger.
Tip:
You can also add tomatoes, peppers, mushrooms, peas and other vegetables in this way conserve.
