Peaches always taste best when freshly picked. But you can also save the taste for the winter. For example by canning the peaches.

Peaches are one of the most popular types of fruit. Because on the one hand they taste very good and on the other hand they can also be planted in the home garden. Unfortunately, however, they don't last very long once you've harvested them. Especially if they have bruises, they quickly turn brown and start to rot. Therefore, it is good to know how to preserve the fruit. One possibility would be e.g. canning. For this, the peaches must be flawless, i.e. have no bruises. Then the peaches can be pickled and preserved for a longer period of time.

Of course you can also conjure up other delicacies from the fruit. For example peach sorbet or peach smoothies. However, you must then consume them immediately. However, you can preserve the delicious fruit for longer.

How to pickle peaches correctly

Ingredients:

  • 8 fresh peaches
  • 2 to 3 liters of water
  • 400 g sugar
  • 2 packets of vanilla sugar
  • a little s alt
  • Cloves
  • Mason jars with lids

Preparation:

1First of all, you need to wash and peel the fruit carefully. Then cut in half and remove the stones.

» Tip: You can easily remove the peel by slitting it crosswise and then pouring hot water over the peaches. Then you shock the peaches and you can easily remove the peel.

2In order to be able to preserve the peaches, you need a broth. To do this, bring the water to a boil and then add the s alt, sugar and vanilla sugar. Then take the pot off the stove and wait until the sugar has completely dissolved in the water.

3Distribute the peach halves evenly among the jars and add a clove to each. Then pour in the hot liquid so that the fruit is completely covered with it. Wipe thatNow wipe the rim of the jars with a clean cloth and immediately close them tightly.

4Now that you have marinated the peaches in the stock, you still have to boil them. This can be done in a saucepan or in the oven. Simply place the filled glasses in the pot and add water. The water should be high enough to level with the liquid in the jars. Then you have to cook the peaches at a temperature of 75 degrees for about 30 minutes.

You can also cook the peaches in the oven. To do this, fill a baking tray about 2 cm high with water and then place the glasses on it. Make sure that they do not touch each other. Then slide the tray into the bottom shelf of the oven at a temperature of 175 °. Then keep an eye on the glasses. As soon as air bubbles rise in it, you must switch off the oven. The glasses then remain in the closed oven for another 30 minutes.

5Take the jars out of the oven and turn them upside down. Let them stand like that for at least two hours. Once the fruit has cooled, all you have to do is store it in a cool, dark place. They can then be stored and enjoyed for several months.
