You can create a garden pond in many different ways. For example, we would like to give you instructions on how to create a garden pond with a pond basin.

The water ripples, the reeds rustle in the wind, the sun is reflected on the water surface… a pond can create a very special feel-good atmosphere in the garden. But what should this look like and how would you like to create it? A particularly simple and quick-to-implement variant is a tub pond.

Creating a garden pond with a pond basin - step-by-step instructions

Step 1 - Preparation:

» find a suitable place

First you should consider where in the garden the pond will later be located. You have to be careful not to build the pond too close to a deciduous tree or too close to a hedge, as these will shed a lot of leaves in autumn, which then end up in the pond and pollute it.

» Mark the outline of the pond basin

Once you have found the right place, you must mark out the area in which the body of water is to be installed. Sticks and ribbons are suitable for this. If the pond is very small, it is sufficient to remove it with a garden hose.

» Plan inflow and outflow

You should also pay attention to the later inflow and outflow of the pond water right at the beginning. Trenching for pipes or other underground services may be required. You must also remove all roots and sharp objects from the pond pit.

Step 2 - Inserting the cymbal:

A tub pond consists of a prefabricated plastic tub, which is available in different sizes and shapes. This is the easiest way to create a garden pond yourself. All you have to do is place the basin in the prepared recess and then fill it with water. A few centimeters are enough to tell whether you have installed the garden pond horizontally.

Important:
The pond edge of the pond basin should protrude a few centimeters above the surface of the earth, otherwise heavy rainfall can result in material being washed into the basin.

Step 3 - Fill voids:

As soon as the new garden pond is perfectly horizontal, you must flush the side cavities between the soil and the plastic pool with loose soil or fine sand and plenty of water. This is a tried and tested method of preventing cavities from forming under the pond basin, which could later damage the tub from the water pressure.

You can then install the pond pump and filter system.

Step 4 - Planting and Filling:

Now all that is missing is the substrate for the aquatic plants, which are available in different sizes.

Then the most beautiful part of creating the garden pond begins: planting the pond plants. There are hardly any limits to your imagination. You should only make sure that the respective plant is suitable for the associated pond zone. Finally, you can slowly fill the entire pond with water.
