Garden design by zones: This is how everyone gets their favorite area

When arranging your garden in certain zones, proceed in the same way as you do with living spaces. Just think of everyone.

Who in your household actually decided to plant a garden? Or more precisely, who has prevailed with his ideas?

A garden should be an enrichment for the whole family, which is why it is important to take all wishes into account when designing it. It doesn't help if only one part realizes its ideas, whether it's a new garden or an existing garden is redesigned, it doesn't matter. So before you get started, sit down in the family council and let everyone express their wishes. To support you, I have put together a small guide that shows you how a garden can be divided into different zones.

Zone Gardening - Where to start?

Once the family council is sitting together, I can imagine the “shouting”: I want a playground, I want a herb garden and there has to be a barbecue corner for me. Keep calm and proceed systematically. Take a sheet of paper (preferably graph paper) and start by drawing out the floor plan of your garden. Mark the power and water connections, this is important for the later design. Limit how far you want an area to go, it can end with a path or a hedge. Also draw in which areas cannot be changed, for example patio areas or an existing garden shed. The first job is done, now it's time to get into the details.

Playground

It is quite logical if there are no children living in the household or if you do not use the garden, you can skip this point. Otherwise, you should consider the youngest members of the family first, because when the children are happy, so are the parents. When planning, it always depends on the child’s age. For the little ones there must be space for a sandbox and possibly a climbing frame or a slide. Space-saving and even more versatile are special children's playhouses, according to my researchsteinershopping.de pretty good deals here. In just a few square meters, you can cover pretty much every urge your child has to play. If the local conditions allow it and you are a bit talented with your hands, you can also build a tree house. Older children get a playground, especially boys value it so that they can play football without restrictions.

Barbecue and relaxation corner

You may be surprised, but I still can't get to fruits, vegetables and flowers. Even if plants and shrubs are essential in the garden, the feel-good character should come first, which is why adults now have a turn. After gardening or the end of the day, just put your feet up, an idyll that everyone will envy and that you won't want to be without. First of all, the question arises whether your chill-out lounge should be covered or not. Once that's settled, it's time to set it up. Plan enough seats (also for sun loungers). In order to be able to sit together comfortably, the table must be adapted to the size of the family. By the way, rattan furniture exudes a special cosiness, but that is up to your personal taste.

A barbecue corner should please the men of the house the most, but later benefit everyone. A little tip from me, if you are completely new to your home, take a look at www.grillen.de for the right equipment. From recipe books to grill tongs to high-class grills, everything is available from a single source. The only thing missing is the final touch, which you can implement with candles, lanterns, lanterns and of course some potted plants.

You've already noticed that the available space is slowly disappearing. Nevertheless, there should still be room for fruit and vegetables. As mentioned above, a hedge or a pergola is suitable for separating the relaxation zone from the vegetable patch. You can then plant them directly and thus already have a part of your ornamental garden, which I will come to later. When planting the vegetable garden, pay attention to the weather conditions. If beds are located directly against a fence or wall, only plants that can tolerate shade may be planted there. These include, for example:

  • corn salad
  • Beans
  • Spinach
  • Kohlrabi
  • Kale
  • parsley
  • Chives
  • Garlic

Ornamental Garden

One garden zone should not be missing, the ornamental garden. Anything that makes your eyes shine can be planted here. Enjoy flowers, grasses and shrubs, but be careful not to plant tall plants in small gardens. Firstly, this takes up too much valuable space, and secondly, large shrubs would visually "overwhelm" the smaller plants. On the other hand, ground cover and perennials are well suited. The best thing to do is to visit www.poetschke.de, there are more than 1,300 plant varieties to choose from.

You see, with good planning and consultation, it is possible to create a favorite spot in the garden for everyone. It is important that you do not start blindly, but create a concept, then nothing will go wrong in practice.
