The laurel is an evergreen shrub or tree that draws attention to itself with its aromatically scented leaves. The flowers, on the other hand, are rather inconspicuous. Nevertheless, a laurel bush or tree is a very beautiful plant and fits into almost every garden.
Once you have a laurel bush in your garden, most people don't want to be without it. Unfortunately, many do not realize that they also have to do something about it. For example in winter. If you don't pay attention to a few important things here, you have to expect that the laurel will go.
This is how the laurel hibernates properly
➤ Pruning laurels in spring:
Long before the hibernation you have to pay attention to a few things. In order for the plant to fit into the space provided for winter storage, you have to cut the laurel in spring, for example. The cut itself is smooth and at a 45 degree angle. You also need to cut off diseased and injured branches as well as wilted flowers.
➤ Winter location:
The laurel needs a frost-free, bright location for the winter. The conservatory, for example, is very good for this. Alternatively, it is also possible to spend the winter in the stairwell or in the bedroom, i.e. in unheated rooms.
➤ pour correctly:
During the winter you have to water the laurel sparingly about every two weeks. Always ensure that the bales are evenly moist and ideally use lime-free water.
