Planters are suitable for the garden as well as for the balcony or terrace. We have instructions for you on how to plant your flower pots.
So that plants and flowers feel comfortable in a bucket and can reach their full size and flowering here, the right planting is a necessary basis. There are a few things you should pay attention to when buying the tubs.
The individual steps for planting in a flower pot
On the balcony or in the garden - flower pots cut a fine figure. With the following steps it is easy to plant them properly.
1. Step: choice of material
The choice of material for the flower pots should not be underestimated. It is particularly comprehensive. It is often recommended to use models made of fiberglass. They are light and have a long service life. However, higher costs are to be expected when purchasing. As an alternative, models made of clay, stone or even wood and polyrattan can be selected.
2. Step: Water DrainBefore buying, check whether the flower pot has a hole in the bottom. This is absolutely necessary if it is to be placed outside all year round. Excess liquid, which could otherwise cause waterlogging, is removed via the bottom hole. Rotting roots damage the entire plant. Some flower pots do not have a bottom hole. This can definitely be drilled out. On the balcony, however, variants without a hole are also used.
3. Step: Choose location
The flower pot should now be moved to its place of installation. Once planted, it is relatively heavy and difficult to move. The installation site should be straight. In addition, the bucket must be aligned correctly. If the place is a little sloping, the flower pot can be stabilized. Woods are ideal here. An advantage in this case is that the water can drain off much better.
4. Step: Create drainage layerIn the next step, the drainage is created. For this, the soil is covered with gravel or expanded clay. The bottom hole should be reduced by adding itprotected with a potsherd. Up to ten centimeters of gravel come to the bottom. This drainage is an important aid in maintaining the soil's moisture balance and thus providing the optimal conditions for the plants. Fleece is then placed on top of the stone layer. This should be permeable to moisture. The fleece can also go up the edge of the bucket. This way the plants are better protected.
5. Step: Insert plants
Now it's time to put plants such as thuja, basil or dwarf sunflowers in the bucket. The earth should also be kept ready for this. The soil and the plants are evenly placed in the pot and everything is filled up. The flowers should be covered to just below their rim. The edge of the flower pot should be at least a few centimeters exposed. Otherwise the water would run over the edge when watering. 6. Step: press earthLayer by layer, the earth is now being pressed down a little. If it is a mixed flower pot that contains several plants, then the larger plants should be used first. Start from the middle of the bucket. If several flowers or plants of the same type are placed in the flower pot, they should have a little space in between so that they can grow better.
7. Step: Caring for plants
After the flowers and soil are in the bucket, everything is watered again and then left alone for a few days. Only the daily watering has to be taken into account.
» Important: After a few days the earth settled and sank further below the edge of the flower pot. Now earth should be filled up again. Depending on the plant, it is important to ensure that it is fertilized regularly. The first fertilization after about one to two months is recommended. If the flower pot has to be moved, it should be carried by several people so that the plants are not damaged.
