Build a garden bridge - How it's done

Anonim

A romantic bridge can easily be integrated into larger gardens. You can find out how to build a garden bridge here.

Components for garden bridges
The design can be done with or without a stream or even over a garden pond. If the gardener also decides to create a Japanese ornamental garden, a matching garden bridge is essential. Numerous components for garden bridges are now available in specialist shops, in different colors and mostly made of wood, preferably oak or larch. But bridges made of metal such as brushed metal, antique patina or shiny stainless steel are becoming increasingly popular. But many also opt for a bridge made of stone.

Build your own garden bridge
Due to the really cheap offers, it is hardly worth making a garden bridge yourself anymore. Unless you, as a hobby gardener or do-it-yourselfer, attach particular importance to the construction of an individual bridge in your garden. However, you should include the statics calculated for the bridge, especially for larger bridge constructions.

Build a simple bridge from Euro pallets
You can build a simple, but nevertheless stable and durable bridge quickly and easily with 2 or 3 Euro pallets. It is made from two solid side panels and the Euro pallets and then planked with solid wood planks or Bangkirai decking boards, etc. Such a bridge is primarily placed over flat garden ponds or low streams. Or it adorns a very specific section of the garden, for which purpose it can be filled with decorative gravel, for example.

Big bridge withRailing
Large garden bridges are constructed in the same way as small bridges. However, the sides are still stabilized by a handrail or two. The large bridges in the garden can also be built over a real stream or over a deep garden pond. Large bridges are secured either with a wide support surface on the banks or with ground anchors concreted into the ground - similar to normal piling.

Tip: If there are also small children in the garden, you should secure the bridge railing accordingly - e.g. with a close succession of bars along the railing so that children's heads cannot be stuck through.

Assembly
When assembling all bridges, it is important to always carefully follow the assembly instructions of the respective manufacturer. Furthermore, you should always concrete the associated, stabilizing posts into the ground, which guarantees a longer service life - ideally you should place the wooden beams on steel posts. So you don't have to worry about the wood rotting in the ground. The planking of the walking area should be done with stainless steel screws, because the bridge is directly exposed to the most diverse weather conditions all year round. In addition, a wooden bridge is also better protected by an appropriate glaze.

Tip: Glaze coats on the bridges should be renewed every two years at the latest - you have to sand the old coat lightly, remove peeling paint thoroughly and then apply the new coat twice.
