An own pond is the highlight for many garden owners, but such a pond also has to be cared for accordingly. Algae in the pond not only make the water unclean, it also looks unkempt and it can even harm other pond inhabitants.
Why do algae develop?
Algae always develop, among other things, when the garden pond is heavily exposed to the sun. That is why you should look for a place that is not in the blazing sun when creating the gate pond. However, this is not the only factor that promotes the formation of algae in the pond.
In addition to the ideal location, i.e. partially shaded, the size of the pond is also crucial. The smaller the pond, the faster the water can warm up, providing an ideal nutrient for algae. So it is always important to maintain the biological balance. There is always a risk of algae infestation when the phosphate content rises above 0.035 milligrams per liter. This is favored by fish droppings, leftover fish food, but also rain and leaves.
Fighting algae with natural means
The best remedy against algae is not to let them develop in the first place. Although this statement is only half true, because algae are not necessarily a burden on the pond, but rather a sign of the good biological quality of the garden pond. They only become a problem when they get out of hand, recognizable by the green color of the water. In most cases, thread algae are the reason for the turbidity of the water.
Underwater plants against algae in the pond
As mentioned above, a location that is too sunny is ideal for algae. Since you can hardly move an existing pond, invest a few euros in aquatic plants that are ideal for providing shade:

Filter against algae in the pond
I don't want to spoil your good mood, but once a pond is completely full of algae, even the best filter won't help. However, there are special filter systems that do a good job in the event of a small infestation. The filter stops the algae in a sponge, and the clear water is returned to the pond via a pump.
