If you want to multiply your golden strawberry and plant it in a different location, you have three different options. We present these to you in more detail here.
Propagation is not a big deal with the golden strawberry (Waldsteinia fragarioides), the plant actually does it itself by the way.
Anyone who owns a Waldsteinia ternata does not have to worry about propagation, quite the opposite. It is not uncommon for the plants to be formally stopped, as they often multiply too eagerly. Below you will find out what needs to be considered in detail when propagating the golden strawberry.
❍ Propagation by runners
If the Waldsteinia ternata feels comfortable in its location, it will grow quickly. Many hobby gardeners may be surprised at how quickly the plant spreads and how quickly other plants or weeds literally disappear in its shade.
The formation of stolons is also known from the strawberries in the orchard. You cannot deny its relationship to the golden strawberry. If you want to put the plants in different locations, you can dig up the plant and cut off the parts you want. The stolons can then be planted in the ground and treated like full plants.
» Tip: If some fertilizer is added to the irrigation water, the plants will grow well. The delicate roots are sensitive to waterlogging.

❍ Propagation by Division
Not all types of golden strawberries form runners and can be propagated as easily as just described. The division can be practiced in all species of the plant genus. The plants are preferably divided in spring. Anyone who has missed this can still divide in the fall.
» Tip: Only sufficiently well developed and strong plants can be divided.
Umto be able to divide them, the plant must first be taken out of the ground. The roots should then be largely freed from soil. Now a part of the plant can be separated with the spade. Use a sharp spade to create smooth cutting edges. Dividing the plant always means stress and frayed cut edges are a breeding ground for pests and bacteria.
The new plants obtained in this way are placed directly at their desired location. Compost or horn shavings can serve as a natural fertilizer. The plant is watered well and can be treated like a mature golden strawberry plant.
» Tip: The plant obtained by division has sensitive roots and should receive protection from brushwood or loose leaves in the first winter.

Propagation by sowing is not necessarily common with the golden strawberry, as there are far simpler ways of propagating, as just described. If you still want to try it, you can collect the seeds from existing plants. However, this turns out to be relatively complex.
Seeds can be purchased in stores. This should then be of primary interest to hobby gardeners who do not yet have their own golden strawberry plants. The seeds can be sown directly outdoors in spring. You can also sow the seeds in seed trays in the fall and grow them indoors, then plant the well-developed plants in the bed in the spring.
» Tip: Sowing is rarely practiced with the golden strawberry. The plants are much easier to propagate because of the stolons.

» Tip: It should preferably be watered with rainwater. The lime contained in tap water is not tolerated by the young plants.
Fertiliser:
Even when planting, it is important to provide the young plants with nutrients. If compost or horn shavings are mixed into the potting soil, a long-term fertilizer is provided and the plants do not need any further fertilization until autumn. If the soil is rather poor in nutrients, a weak concentration of slow-release fertilizer can be applied every 14 days during the growth period.
Hiberation:
The golden strawberry is usually hardy. However, young plants are more sensitive and should be protected with brushwood or loose leaves during their first winter. Even in winter, the plants need moisture from time to time so that the roots do not dry out. Watering is only done on frost-free days.
Is the golden strawberry poisonous?
This question arises when you have to deal with the plant, for example when you have to take it out of the ground and divide it. Although we do not recommend eating the plant, golden strawberries are not poisonous to humans or animals.
