Cola is one of the world's most popular soft drinks and has been an integral part of the beverage shelves in supermarkets for decades. Children in particular love cola and lemonades, which many parents are not so happy about, after all, these drinks with their high sugar content are rightly considered fattening and caries-causing. In recent years, however, more and more herbal lemonades have come onto the market, which are available both as organic lemonades and with reduced sugar and which even the little ones like.

But there are also a few other ways to make he althy and delicious lemonade with herbs from your own garden, which not only children like. One of the most interesting herbs with a very special taste is e.g. the cola herb, which you can make a lot out of.

Flavour like cola, he althy like herbs

The cola herb, also known as camphor southernwood, grows in Central Europe and Asia. The plant gets its name from the tips of its shoots and the young leaves, which smell and taste like cola. In addition to the interesting taste, the herb also impresses with positive he alth effects, as it strengthens the stomach and promotes digestion. But beware: older leaves taste bitter and should therefore not be harvested.

The great thing: because the herb tastes like cola, you can use it to make a he althy alternative to Coke.

How to make your own cola

You need for one liter:

  • 3 - 5 sprigs cola herb
  • approx. 100 ml freshly squeezed orange juice
  • a bottle of mineral water (sparkling)
  • 3 tablespoons of honey or less

Preparation:

  1. Pluck the sprigs of the cola herb and place in a saucepan or bowl.
  2. Add 200 ml of boiling water and the honey and leave to cool for about 1 hour.
  3. Then remove the cabbage, add the orange juice and top up with ice-cold mineral water.
