The mullein is an undemanding plant that thrives particularly well in lean, dry and nutrient-poor soil. You only need to water them during the flowering period when it is very hot and during long periods of drought.
And when it comes to fertilizing, you don't have to put in much effort. You really only need to fertilize them once in the spring.
Verbascum grows best here
Annual or perennial plants fit well in natural gardens. But they also feel comfortable in a heath garden, prairie garden or steppe garden. They are also welcome in the rock garden, but can displace the cushion perennials in the rock garden by self-sowing. Mullein grows particularly well in well-drained, poor soil with few nutrients. A nutrient-rich, moist soil, on the other hand, means that the plants are rather short-lived. In any case, it is important to have sandy, well-drained soil to prevent waterlogging.

One application of fertilizer a year is enough
Verbascums are similarly frugal when it comes to fertilizer. Young plants do not need fertilizer at all. From the second year you can use complete fertilizer in the spring. Complete fertilizer contains nitrogen, phosphate and potassium. You get the fertilizer in liquid form or granulated. Be sure to use little and only fertilize the mulleins once. If you fertilize moderately at the beginning of the vegetation phase, the mullein will bloom particularly profusely.
