Celery freezes easily. However, you should pay attention to something, especially with celery, so that nothing goes wrong.
The main harvest time for celery is around October - sometimes also in November. However, if you want to use the spicy bulb or the crunchy sticks in the kitchen all year round, you can freeze the celery without any problems.
Both celeriac and celery sticks keep in the freezer for a long time. And the best? It only takes a few simple steps to gently freeze the vegetables.
Insert celeriac - possible raw and cooked
You can freeze celeriac both raw and cooked. The combination of celeriac, carrots and parsley, or better known as soup greens, is popular.
Freezing celeriac as soup greens
Here you simply cut off a piece of celery, peel it and put it together with a small carrot or a piece (depending on the size of the carrot and your own taste) and a few sprigs of parsley (usually flat, but curly also possible) on a piece of cling film. Then wrap them tightly around the vegetables to create small packets. It is best to place the finished packages in a freezer box. You now always have the right vegetables for a hearty soup at hand without much effort.
Freeze raw celeriac
If you want to freeze your celery without additional companions, you have to peel the tuber in advance. Then cut into handy cubes and place in a freezer bag. Label with the date and content and you're done. Using this method, the celery will last about 6 months in the freezer.
Freezing cooked celeriac
Of course, already processed celeriac can also be frozen. Simply let the vegetables cool, transfer to a freezer container, label and then you can also freeze the cooked celery for a few months.
Celery needs good preparation
You have to do a little differently with celery. You should blanch this before freezing. The best way to do this is as follows:
1 Cut theCut the celery stalks into not too large pieces and remove any blemishes and brown spots. Boil some s alted water in a saucepan and add the pieces in batches for about 3 minutes.
2 Scoop out the celery pieces with a slotted spoon and let them drain slightly. Then pour into a bowl of ice water. This stops the cooking process and the sticks keep their beautiful green color for a long time.
3 Finally, drain the celery well again and then place it in manageable portions in a labeled freezer bag. So you know exactly when you froze what amount.
Tip: Blanched celery sticks will keep in the freezer for a few months.
