Charcoal grilling

The classic and therefore still the most popular way of grilling delicious meat and vegetables is charcoal. The unmistakable scent and above all the smoky taste is simply part of it for many.

… these are the advantages:

  • The grill can be set up anywhere.
  • No assembly knowledge required, as most are already pre-assembled.
  • Low purchase price: disposable models are available from 5 euros.
  • The selection of charcoal grills is very large (various sizes and shapes).
  • The grill grate can be adjusted according to your own needs.
  • The grilled food convinces with excellent taste.

… and the cons

  • In gardens there can be trouble with the neighbors because of the smoke.
  • Patience is required: It takes at least 30 to 40 minutes from lighting the fire to actually grilling.
  • You have to "set" the right grilling temperature yourself with the appropriate amount of charcoal and sensitivity.
  • Grilling dripping onto the embers can be harmful.
  • The grill must be cleaned by hand (remove ash, clean grate).

Barbecue with electric grill

An alternative to the smoky charcoal grill is the electric grill. Delicious grilled food can be "zaibert" even without steam and open embers.

… these are the advantages

  • Barbecue is possible outdoors and indoors.
  • NoneSmoke nuisance to neighbors.
  • Ready for use as it is usually delivered in one piece.
  • Desired temperature at the push of a button and adjustable: no waiting time.
  • Easy cleaning if there is a drip tray and non-stick coating (depending on the model).

… and the cons

  • Rather unsuitable for barbecuing in the garden (outdoors), as a socket and electricity are required.
  • No intense smoky flavor compared to charcoal grill.
  • The "open fire feeling" is missing.
  • Grilling surface, i.e. grate, often much smaller.

Barbecue on the gas grill / lava stone grill

The gas grill / lava stone grill is slowly taking over from the popular charcoal grill. The Weber gas grill is enjoying increasing popularity. This type of grill is powered by gas cartridges that are independent of a power source.

… these are the advantages

  • Quick ignition at the push of a button (spark transfer)
  • Precise control of the grill temperature.
  • Even heating of the food at every point of the gas grill.
  • In addition to meat and vegetables, even cakes and desserts can be prepared in the gas grill.
  • Almost no smoke development.

… and the cons

  • Depending on the model, very space-consuming.
  • There must always be enough gas available (provide a spare bottle).
  • Less mobile, especially for large gas grills.
  • Simple models are often difficult to clean.
  • Fairly high purchase price (at least 200 euros and up).
