Late autumn is the best time to renovate all trellis. Here's a little step-by-step guide on how to do it.
Step 1 - Remove plants
Late autumn is the best time for renovation work, because the plants should be cut back during this time anyway. However, before you start the renovation work, you must first carefully detach the main shoots of the plant, which have been cut back significantly beforehand, from the latticework. To do this, it is best to set up a support right next to the respective plant - e.g. an old garden chair - and place the plant that has been unbraided from the bars loosely over it. Of course, you can also place short shoots on the ground for a short time. It is only important that the individual parts of the plant do not have to record any injuries, which of course also applies to the associated root area.
Step 2 - Renovations
Depending on the type of trellis, it can now be renovated on site. However, it is better if you dismantle the trellis, renovate it thoroughly (possibly sand the wood and repaint it) and then reattach it. In this way, of course, climbing aids can be completely replaced or, if necessary, significantly expanded.
Step 3 - Thread in plant shoots
After completing the renovation work on the trellis and trellis, the previously removed plant shoots must of course be threaded back into them. This work not only requires great attention (danger of injuring the plants), but also a little gardening skill so that the plant can grow relatively evenly along the trellis again next spring.
