You have to calculate a lot of space for growing vegetables. Space that not everyone has to offer in abundance. The solution in this case is combined plants, such as the tomato. Anyone who now thinks that this is all very complicated is wrong. The exotic from the garden, which actually isn't one at all, is actually down-to-earth.

Find the right location
A sunny location creates the ideal conditions for the tomato to thrive. If you want to achieve the highest possible yields, you should not choose a location that is too shady. Partial shade is tolerated. A warm and sunny location requires regular watering. The hobby gardener should offer them a support to prevent the plants from buckling and allowing them to grow taller.

Selecting the ideal substrate
Being able to harvest tomatoes and potatoes at the same time is not only a joy for the home gardener, but also a challenge for the plant. A high-quality substrate creates the basis for he althy growth and rich harvests. You should leave nothing to chance and trust in high-quality culture substrate. Special tomato soil also allows the potatoes to thrive. In addition, mature compost can be mixed into the substrate as a natural fertilizer. The substrate should still be well drained, as the tomato does not tolerate waterlogging.

Tomatoplant - explained step by step
Pre-grown tomato plants will be on sale in specialist garden centers from April. The approximately 30 centimeters high young plants are in individual plant pots. You should not start planting immediately after purchase. Gradually acclimate the plants to outside temperatures over a period of about two weeks.

After a location that is as sunny as possible has been found, the planting hole can be dug. This should be about twice the width and depth of the root ball. If the existing substrate is to be used, you should provide it with compost or horn shavings and supply the tomato fertilizer after planting (my recommendation: Compo long-term tomato fertilizer). You create optimal conditions when the plant is placed in commercially available tomato soil. Then all the necessary nutrients are included that allow both the tomatoes and the potatoes to thrive. Before planting, it is advisable to water the plants. To do this, the tomato is dipped into a bucket of water until no more bubbles rise.
Can Tomatoes be cultivated in a tub?
Cultivation in a tub is possible and offers many advantages. Tomatoes and potatoes can now also be harvested in a small space. For the plant, however, keeping it in a bucket means that it is restricted compared to cultivation in the open air. The hobby gardener should therefore endeavor to create ideal growth conditions. This begins with the selection of the planter. The bucket should never be too small or too flat.
» Tip: If the potato harvest is to be as lush as possible, the planter must have a capacity of at least 40 liters. The diameter should also not be less than 50 centimeters.
Potted plants have an increased need for water and nutrients. Regular watering should not be missed. It is important to avoid waterlogging. A drainage can help here, which is worked into the bottom of the vessel and can consist of clay granules or gravel.
