If you don't want to throw the purchase price of your lawn mower out of the window, you need to take regular care of your mower. And this is how it works!
The lawn is mowed, the work is done, it's time to call it a day! Unfortunately, it's not that easy if you want to keep your lawn mower for a longer period of time. In the best case, the mower, regardless of whether it is an electric or petrol version, is cleaned after each mowing session. It is understandable that there is often a lack of leisure. However, you should set regular appointments for lawn mower maintenance. Especially at the end of the season, i.e. in late autumn, the lawn mower must be subjected to thorough maintenance and care.
Tip 1 - basic cleaning
If you send your lawn mower into the winter break without being cleaned, you run the risk that both the housing and the blades will be completely rusted out next spring. The first thing to do is tilt the mower on its side. Attention: always on the side facing away from the air filter so that no fuel can escape. Now remove all grass residue and coarse dirt deposits with a brush. Then clean the housing around the blades with a damp cloth. You can tap out the grass catcher and simply rinse off the remaining grass residue with a garden hose.

Tip 2 - Knife Control
Blades that are unsharp firstly no longer mow well and secondly can also be a source of accidents. In this case, have the knives sharpened by a professional (specialist shop). If this is no longer possible, the knives must be replaced.
Tip 3 - Derusting and regreasing
Especially after the winter, but also every now and then, the lawnmower must be checked for rust. The affected areas must be freed from rust. To do this, take a wire brush or sandpaper and rub off the rust in the truest sense of the word. Once this is done, the affected areas can be painted over. This is not only visually nicer, the new coat of paint also protects against new rust growth. Regular greasing of the bearings can prevent the ingress of water and the resulting corrosion, so don't forget this step when looking after your lawn mower.
Tip 4 - Empty tank and oil levelcontrol
The lawnmower is not used for a long time during the winter months, so it is important that you empty the tank as much as possible, otherwise there is a risk of fire. The most ecological method is not to fill up the tank before the last mowing, so that you completely use up the petrol contained in it. The oil level must also be checked to prevent starting difficulties at the start of the next season. Tip 5 - Air Filter Check
The air filter is not visible at first glance, but there is no reason to neglect it. If the air filter is dirty, the lawnmower consumes more fuel and wears out faster. Light soiling can be tapped out, but a heavily soiled filter must be replaced.
Tip 6 - Storage
So that the lawn mower is not exposed to dust or moisture, it should be sheltered in a dry place (tool shed, basement). Ideally, this place is also frost-free. To cover, use a blanket or commercially available lawn mower covers.
