Anyone who creates a pond in the garden must also pay attention to the correct planting. It depends on the pond size as well as on the depth.
Plants enrich the water with a lot of oxygen
The water should not be overloaded with plants, especially not if you have fish. On the other hand, plants ensure that the water is enriched with plenty of oxygen, thus suppressing the formation of algae. When considering the depth of the pond, it should be noted that not every plant is suitable for every pond. For example, water lilies need a water depth of at least 40 centimeters, the more the better. The deep water zone then begins at 40 centimetres. Water lilies, frog bites and also sea jugs are ideal there.
Shallow water zone, swamp zone and wet zone
In the shallow water zone, which is between 10 and 40 centimetres, rushes and porcupines feel at home. The marsh iris and the fir frond also have a great place there. The swamp zone can be found up to a depth of 10 centimeters. Marsh marigold, marsh iris and purple loosestrife thrive there. Attention: Around the pond and within the pond liner, the wet zone follows. Plants such as the Siberian iris and meadowsweet are particularly suitable there.
