Climate in the greenhouse - 4 tips

In order for plants to thrive, it is important that you always ensure a good climate in the greenhouse. Read here how to create a good climate.

A greenhouse ensures a long-term, extremely productive harvest of fruit and vegetables. But also for the magnificent cultivation of flowers and potted plants. In addition, a greenhouse serves as a wintering place for exotic plants that cannot remain outside in our climate zones on cold days. Which is why you have to make sure that the climate in the greenhouse is always optimally adapted to the prevailing weather conditions outside. The following tips will show you how to achieve this.

Climate in the greenhouse - 4 tips

Tip 1 - Heating system
If plants overwinter in your greenhouse or you grow new plants very early in the year, then your greenhouse should definitely have a frost guard (available here), better still have an integrated heating system. Ideally, specific greenhouse heaters should be automatically thermostat-controlled, such as greenhouse convection heating systems, to achieve even temperatures throughout the greenhouse.

Less suitable are kerosene heaters, which spread uneven heat in the greenhouse. Although they are often offered as a greenhouse heating system.

Tip 2 - Shading
Shading a greenhouse is urgently needed, especially when the sun is intense, so that the plants inside don't burn . Suitable for this are either roller blinds and/or venetian blinds, which can be attached to the inside or outside with special mounting systems. But you can also roll out bast mats or plastic mats or a garden fleece for shading along the roof surfaces.

Tip 3 - Ventilation
Of course, plants should never be exposed to direct drafts. However, a pleasant indoor climate should always prevail in a greenhouse. Which is why you should install a large, wide-opening door - in the case of large greenhouses, two doors on both ends.

It is even better if you also integrate windows or skylights in the greenhouse that youcan easily put into a tilting state. Alternatively, you can also install a special greenhouse fan (available here) in one of the outer walls (at gable height if possible).

Tip 4 - Humidity
An automatic irrigation system in the greenhouse usually ensures high humidity, which the majority of the plants clearly prefer. On top of that, a water supply in the greenhouse makes it easier to water the plants, which is always necessary there.
