At the turn of the year, countless pots with lucky clover are given away. So here is an explanation of how you can plant and care for lucky clover.

With a little skill you can grow these lovely lucky charms yourself and bring them with you everywhere as a welcome garden gift. After about 2 to 3 years, with the right care, the lucky clover even begins to bloom with pink or yellow, filigree flowers.

Plant clover

You have to sow the lucky clover, which grows up to 20 centimeters high, in small plant pots or plant bowls in autumn, which you have filled with potting soil. The seed for this is available in the garden store, where small bulbs of the lucky clover are often also available.

For a New Year's lucky clover, you can put the first small plants in small pots, in which you can also give them away as gifts. However, you can only keep the resting phase of the already large-bred lucky clover for a short time, so that the hibernation then takes place at room temperature. You can also give lucky clover pots on New Year's Day.

Starting in April, you should complete the resting phase of the lucky clover every year by placing the plants at room temperature in a sunny window - avoid dry heating air at all costs. After the ice saints in May, the lucky clover can even move as a pot plant outdoors to light to partially shaded, but not full sun.

Hint:

In the first few days you should make sure that the clover does not burn its leaves outdoors. Insertion in the garden bed is only recommended to a limited extent.

Care for lucky clover properly

» watering/fertilizing:

You must water the lucky clover regularly, but sparingly, while dressing or after the end of the resting phase. The ideal time for this is when the top layer of soil dries slightly. A full fertilizer application every 4 to 6 weeks is sufficient.

Hint:

If the potty of the lucky clover becomes too small, you can easily repot it in spring or late summer, for which purpose a substrate for indoor plants is recommended.

» pluck withered leaves/cut back:

You should also allregularly pluck withered leaves of the lucky clover. And if the potted plant gets completely out of shape, you can even cut it into shape in late summer.

» Overwintering:

Lucky clover is not hardy, which is why it should overwinter in a frost-free, cool room (e.g. in the basement). And after it draws in its leaves in autumn (dormant phase), even a partially shaded spot is suitable for overwintering.

Hint:

During the hibernation phase, you should only water the lucky clover minimally so that it does not dry out during this time.
