The photinia is a beautiful and robust plant that is easy to propagate. Everything you need is provided by the plant itself.
Every spring, the photinia (Photinia) forms inflorescences, from which fruits subsequently form - the berries. These fruits remain on the tree until they are fully ripe. From this moment you can already start with the propagation. You need:
- a flower box
- some potting soil
- a cool location
How to do it:
❶ Gather some of the ripe berries from your medlar and use the fruit directly for sowing. To do this, fill a flower box with soil and plant the berries about eight centimeters apart. Then cover the seeds with some soil and water them.
❷ Unlike many plants, the medlar works best if you choose a cool location. So put the box in a partially shaded basement and keep the soil moist. After a few weeks, the first seedlings will form, which you simply leave in the box.
❸ You should overwinter the young plants indoors for the first winter after sowing. If a lot of berries have germinated, it is advisable to separate the young plants and give them more space.
❹ From the middle/end of May, i.e. after the Ice Saints, you can plant the young plants in their final location in the garden.
