Lava granules are absolutely versatile in every garden today and can be used for garden plants as well as for indoor plants. Different granule mixtures are of course offered in specialist shops, which is why you should definitely take a look at the packaging instructions.
If you are looking for lava granules, then you should not only look for typical brown mixtures. Lava granules are now even available in bright colors. The granules therefore have two advantages: they are good for plants and a pretty variant of use in modern garden decoration.
Lava granules - components and benefits
As the name suggests, lava granulate is a purely natural product that is obtained from the vicinity of volcanoes. The advantage of this product is that it optimally stores water and slowly releases it back into its environment. One reason why you should add lava granules to extremely dry soils.
The good thing about it: Lava granulate does not rot over the years, which is why a purchase is inexpensive and recommendable even in the long term. Furthermore, it offers the advantage that you can use it both in the garden and with indoor plants. We'll explain exactly how here.

In the case of garden plants, you should primarily add the lava granulate to the soil before planting. Depending on the grain size, a soil/granulate mixing ratio of 4:1 is recommended.
The advantage of mixing is that the oxygen content in the soil is significantly increased. Furthermore, the soil receives important minerals and trace elements through the granules, which are clearly beneficial for the growth of the plants. And the lava granules are able to store heat from the sun and give it back directly to the plants in the soil area, which is excellent for the period from autumn to spring.

In the case of outdoor potted plants, you should actually use a granulate mixture much more often. It is best to create a drainage layer inside the bucket. This allows you to avoid waterlogging and thus also rot in the bucket. Not to be forgotten is the well-dosed moisture reservoir that the individual pebbles then create inside the tub, which in turn can significantly reduce permanent watering of the tub plants.

For pot plants, so-called lava chippings are now also available, which can be mixed even better with the soil.

Lava granules became famous in houseplants primarily through hydroponics, but are now used much more frequently within the individual soil mixtures. Especially since it provides valuable services as a moisture reservoir.
If you want to do something good for your indoor plants, you should add some lava granules to the potting soil. The mixing ratio of soil to granulate is 4:1 within the small grain sizes.
