Some say that everything that grows in the garden has its place there. And that's why some people don't pull weeds.
However, if you have a well landscaped garden, then it is only too understandable not to tolerate wild weeds in the flower bed - so out with them.
But things often grow rampant and you can no longer control the situation. So that you can at least contain them a little, because they will never disappear completely, there are a few options. Here are our 4 tips to weeds to remove and to reduce:
- Deep-rooted weeds such as goutweed, buttercups or field bindweed, i.e. the plants that grow new shoots from the roots, should definitely be attacked with a weed puller and pull out the roots as well. Likewise, in the case of dandelion and thistle, the entire plants, including the roots, must be removed.
- Try to counteract the weeds with pretty ground covers. Periwinkle, golden strawberry, lily of the valley are popular… At least that's how it is reduced.
- A layer of bark mulch does no harm and effectively controls weeds.
- If you lay a weed mat in a bed before planting and then cover it with a layer of bark mulch, then you will have peace from weeds for a particularly long time.
