Decorating a grave is not just about planting flowers. You can always embellish it with a flower arrangement. If you make it yourself, you can even change it according to the season.

On All Saints' Day and on the Sunday of the Dead at the latest, everyone makes a pilgrimage to the cemetery and lays down funeral arrangements to honor and commemorate the deceased. But why only on these days? Sure, buying grave arrangements can get quite expensive over time. Of course, it is easier to only plant flowers on the grave. You can also make the grave arrangements yourself. It really isn't difficult and, most importantly, it's not expensive. So take your time and make a grave arrangement yourself.

The best: You can let your creativity run free and adapt the arrangement to the season. How about a cross grave arrangement, for example? The basic structure is very easy to make and beautify. Just give it a try!

You will need:

  • Molding
  • Styrofoam plate
  • wire
  • pliers
  • Knife
  • pen
  • Ruler
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Scissors
  • Decoration Material

Instructions for a cross grave arrangement

❍ Step 1:

Take the styrofoam sheet and draw a cross on it with a ruler and pen. You can determine the size yourself. But don't make it too small, after all, you should be able to see it later on the grave. Then cut out the shape with the knife.

❍ Step 2:

Now take the plug-in mass. You can buy these in blocks at craft stores, hardware stores, garden centers, or even online. Use the styrofoam cross as a template and then cut the floral foam to size. The floral foam cross can later consist of several parts.

If you want to skip steps 1 and 2, you can also use a cross made of plug-in mass. These are already available for purchase. See here:

❍ Step 3:

Once you have cut the cross shape out of floral foam, take the pieces and glue them with theHot glue gun on the styrofoam cross. If some Styrofoam or floral foam is sticking out somewhere, you can cut it off with a knife. You've actually done most of the work now.

❍ Step 4:

Next you need to think about how you want to embellish the cross. It is best to always adapt it to the season. For example, you can use fresh or dried flowers, fir branches, pine or fir cones, tree bark and much more.

It is always best to start with the embellishment at the edge. You can stick tree bark, moss or leaves on it, for example. But you can also work with flowers here.

❍ Step 5:

Next is the top. If you work with dried flowers, you can simply stick them into the floral foam. This also applies to real flowers with a solid stem. With filigree flowers, on the other hand, it is better if you wrap the stems with wire and only then position them in the floral foam. All other decorative elements such as cones, twigs, beads, etc. are best glued to the arrangement with the hot glue gun. And you're done!

That really wasn't difficult, was it? And not expensive either. In principle, you only have to spend money on the styrofoam plate and the floral foam. But you can also buy a ready-made plant cross made of floral foam (e.g. here). You can find the rest in nature.
