Boars in the garden? It sounds impossible at first, but it's becoming more and more common. Our article shows you how to avoid the "mess" right from the start.
Actually, wild boars live in the forest. Due to the rich food supply that they find in our vicinity, wild boars can now also be found in parks and green spaces, in forests near the city and also in residential areas. Speak also in the otherwise so cherished and well-kept gardens. And this is where they can wreak havoc. Because once a whole herd of wild boar moves through the garden, there is hardly anything left of the well-groomed beds. Because wild boar tear open the ground deeply with their snout when looking for food.
Whoever thinks that a missing garden border is to blame for the fact that the wild boars have free access to the gardens is wrong. It is not uncommon for the animals to break through hedges and even fences. So if you have problems with wild boar in the garden, you have to come up with something to drive the animals out of the garden again. For example, the tips below can help.
How to drive wild boar out of the garden
❍ Tip 1 - the right garden fence:
If you want to put up a new garden fence, you should know that a classic wooden or wire mesh fence is basically not up to the power of wild boars. Better here is a bar fence or a concrete wall as an enclosure. Of course, you can also let your creativity run free and build a different kind of garden fence. For example, a garden fence made of gabions and glass chunks. The only important thing is that the fence is very stable and about 1.50 meters high, because the animals are very good at jumping.
If you find a natural look very beautiful and would rather have a hedge as a property border, then consider that this cannot withstand wild boar. It is better to build a stable boundary and then plant the fence.
❍ Tip 2 - electric wild boar fence:
Of course that sounds very radical, but an electric wild boar fence can drive the animals away again. Don't worry, an electric fence energizer works with harmless currents and only provides protection when toucheda shock impulse. The wild boars remember this experience and will avoid the fence and the garden in the future. Surely they will continue to walk around in front of your property, but they will not enter it in the future.
You will find a lot of other useful information on the topic of electric fences at agrarHELD.de, for example. The shop has 35 years of experience and also offers free specialist advice on everything to do with electric fences/electric fences.
❍ Tip 3 - Wild Repell:
Wild boar can also be scared away with a so-called wild repellent. These are pellets that are only a few millimeters in size, which are harmless to wild boar and which you only have to spread around your garden. The effect: if the wild boars eat the pellets, they develop such a repulsive taste that the animals find it difficult to get rid of them. So they will certainly no longer go in search of food in your garden in the future. Nevertheless, repeat this process every few weeks. Because new animals could always find their way into your garden.
❍ Tip 4 - Fragrances:
But there are also means to drive away wild boar that work with scents. These are usually sprayed onto rags of cloth and attached to a long stick. The cloth flaps on the stick are then stuck into the ground at a distance of about 10 meters. The smell is so unpleasant for wild boar that they choose another place to forage. Depending on the weather, the scent sticks to the scent reservoirs for about two to four weeks. In other words, the cloth rags then have to be sprayed again.
A little additional tip:
If you have chilli flakes at home, you can also boil about 1 tablespoon in two liters of water, let everything stand for 24 hours and then add the strained water Mix in 2 tablespoons of biodegradable dish soap. Then put it in a spray bottle and you have made a great remedy against wild boar yourself. Due to the sharpness of the chilli flakes, it acts like a pepper spray and thus effectively drives away the wild boars. All you have to do is spray it around your property.
❍ Tip 5 - Remove food sources:
Boars love to forage in gardens. However, they do not only rummage through the beds. It is therefore important that you make your garden unattractive to wild boar from the outset. You can do this, for example, by typing:
➞ Do not dispose of leftovers on the compost heap
➞ Remove fallen fruit, beechnuts, acorns, etc. from the garden immediatelyRemove
➞ Close rubbish bins tightly
➞ Do not place rubbish bags on the street until the morning of the pick-up time
➞ Close feed for pets well
By the way, by following these points, you can also effectively drive raccoons out of your garden.
And also:
Never feed wild boar! This is forbidden and will even be punished with a fine. On bussgeldkatalog.org you can find out, for example, how high such a fine can be in your federal state.
Prevention is better than aftercare
If you find out that wild boar have been sighted in your area, it is best to protect your garden from the animals immediately. Because if they have caused damage to your property, you are usually left with the costs. This is because insurance companies rarely offer policies that cover damage caused by wildlife. According to advocard.de, however, tenants can demand that the landlord take adequate protective measures at his own expense. This was confirmed by a judgment of the Berlin Regional Court (AZ 67 S 65/14).
In addition, it is of course very annoying when wild boars devastate the lovingly laid out beds and the beautifully manicured lawn beyond recognition. That's why you'd rather act as a precaution than face a field of devastation later. Here is an additional interesting video on the subject:

If the wild boar become too many and cause a lot of damage, then a city hunter is often used. He then goes hunting for the animals with his gun and rifle scope.
