High-quality gas grills are very expensive to buy. To ensure that they last a long time and that the enjoyment of the barbecue is not impaired, they should be cared for and cleaned regularly.
Summer is all about the barbecue season - inveterate barbecue enthusiasts throw on the barbecue several times a week. It's not always just meat on the menu - fish, vegetables and fruit are increasingly being grilled. The grill should be cleaned and cared for regularly so that the grilling pleasure is not overshadowed by a strange aftertaste after the fourth time. In this way, you maintain the longevity of the gas grill and can look forward to a delicious piece of meat, fish or another treat from the grill every time.
Cleaning is divided into three phases:
- Cleaning after each grilling
- Cleaning as required
- Annual cleaning
Cleaning after each grilling
The grill grate is part of the grill, which you should clean regularly after each grilling. Marinade, meat and spice residues are deposited on this and could start to get moldy before the next time you use the grill. So if only for reasons of hygiene, you shouldn't put the cleaning off too long here.
The most effective way to clean the rust is to burn it out. To do this, close the lid of the device and set all switches to the highest level. Don't be surprised by the smoke development. This is the process that cleans the individual parts - the residue burns, so to speak. When there is no more smoke, the process is complete and there is nothing left to burn.
To remove the soot stains, use a wire brush. You should definitely pay attention to quality, because cheap material can severely damage the rust. There are also differences to the existing grill grate. You can find out which type of grill brush is best for which grill grate material in the rawford.de guide.
Finally, simply wipe over it with a damp cloth and the grill grate looks like new.
» By the way: When burning out, the burner cover is also automatically cleanedfrom the gas grill.
Cleaning as required
When grilling with a gas grill, always have a fire extinguisher at hand.
If you fire up the grill more often, you should disassemble the grill into its individual parts and clean them once every three months. Screws should be soaked in soapy water and then cleaned with steel wool. Then let it dry well. Be sure to remove the gas bottle from the grill when cleaning. In addition, a look should be taken at the fat drip tray. Depending on how often you grill, some fat can accumulate here. To avoid a dangerous fire, the fill level should be checked regularly.
If the aluminum drip trays are half full, you should allow the fat to harden and dispose of it. You can clean the bowl in the dishwasher or simply wash it off. However, since the bowls are not designed for long-term use, you should dispose of them after the second or at the latest after the third time, depending on how dirty they are. Replenishment of these special drip trays is available in various designs and sizes, for example at time4wellness.de. The dimensionally stable aluminum is more durable, protects the inner workings of the grill and saves you valuable time when cleaning.
❖ Cleaning the outside of the gas grill
Cleaning the outside of the grill is probably the easiest of all tasks. You can easily remove grease and dirt with glass or stainless steel cleaner. To do this, simply spray the surface, leave it to work for a short time and then wipe it off.
Instead of a special cleaner, you can also use water with washing-up liquid.
» Caution: Do not use scouring pads or coarse brushes on a stainless steel gas grill as this will scratch the surface.
❖ Cleaning the inside of the gas grill
The gas grill will never look as beautiful as it looked when you bought it after you used it for the first time. But it doesn't have to rot inside either, which is why it's important to completely remove dirt from the gas grill from time to time.
Clear the grill and remove any stubborn dirt with a wooden spatula. Wood is best as it doesn't scratch the surface that can lead to rust later.
For cleaning, experts recommend a mixture of water and vinegar in a ratio of 1:10, with vinegar making up the greater part. Wet the entire inner surface with the mixture and leave it on for about 10 to 15 minutes.
» My tip: You can also use oven spray instead of the vinegar-water mixture.
After the exposure time, simply wipe the interior with a dry cloth.
Annual cleaning
The annual cleaning is more about making the gas grill winterproof. The same parts as mentioned above should be cleaned here. But that's not all. The gasprofi24.de guide explains in detail which details you should definitely take care of shortly before winter so that you can use your gas grill as usual again in spring.
