Although kohlrabi can be prepared in many ways, many people still want to have some of it during the cold season. Freezing is the best solution here. Because kohlrabi from the freezer is quickly at hand and makes delicious dishes even in winter. However, there are a few things to consider when processing and using them.

How to Freeze Kohlrabi

❍ Step 1 - Wash and peel kohlrabi:

So that the kohlrabi can later be removed from the freezer ready to eat, a certain amount of preparation is necessary. First you should wash the kohlrabi thoroughly. When peeling the vegetables, you should start at the root base, because that's where most of the woody parts are to be found. You should generously remove these woody areas before freezing.

  6. Leave the kohlrabi in the boiling water for a minute or two

When the kohlrabi has cooled down, it can be placed in the prepared containers or freezer bags and frozen.

Tip:
When blanching, be careful not to put too many vegetables in the pot at once. This delays reaching the boiling point. Also, refresh the ice water several times. Because by adding the hot vegetable, it heats up very quickly.

How to use frozen kohlrabi?

There is no need to defrost the frozen vegetables before use. You can take the kohlrabi straight from the freezer and put it in the pot. A short cooking time is necessary to bring the kohlrabi up to temperature. Those who want to enjoy their vegetables with "bite" will usually be disappointed.
