A house entrance with a modern design is characterized by minimalist elegance. Despite clear structures, plants should not be missing.

In this advice article I would like to give you suggestions for a modern design style that is characterized by symmetrical, clear and almost minimalist structures. Don't worry, the aesthetics are not neglected, despite the easy-care design and planting.
❶ The front door - eye-catcher no. 1

➔ Don't forget the peripherals!
If you have decided on a front door, the environment will be designed to match. So that there is no break in style, you also stick to linear elements for the name tag, the house number and the bell. If you don't want to mess up your house facade with large drill holes, you don't have to do without modern design. With surface-mounted doorbells from frabox, for example, the stylish design of the entrance area is combined with practical know-how. The high-quality models are not only weatherproof, they also complement the modern character of your entrance area perfectly.
Also make sure that the mailbox has a simple but modern design if it is installed directly in the entrance area. Square or rectangular wall lights not only conjure up a beautiful effect on the house wall, the outdoor lighting is also functional burglary protection.
❷Modern paving slabs for the house entrance

Old town pavements or mosaic stones are currently experiencing a hype, but have no place in the modern design of the house entrance. White pebbles are an option, but keep in mind that they wash out quickly when it rains, making the trail almost impassable.
Better and above all more modern are paving slabs made of dark granite, travertine or sandstone - to be found, for example, in the jonastone range. If you are still undecided as to which material fits best in your entrance area, you can have a sample sent to you at an affordable price.
It is also important that the plates are not too small. Larger paving slabs give the entire entrance area more grandeur and still exude a touch of solid elegance.

❸ Prefer low-growing plants
Shrubs and shrubs add structure to the modern front garden, but only if they are low-growing plants. Keep this in mind when buying, because a later continuous pruning reduces the growth height for a short time, but allows the plant to sprout all the wider.
Suggestions for low growing plants (perennials and ground covers)
- Lesser cranesbill (Geranium pusillum)
- Japanese Ysander (Pachysandra terminalis)
- Lesser Lady's Mantle (Alchemilla erythropoda)
- Red Ice Plant (Delosperma cooperi)
- Waldsteinia (Waldsteinia)
Extra tip: Larger lawn areas can be loosened up with grasses planted in a gravel bed.
❹ Ball trees for the front yard

Ball Trees must not be missing when designing a modern entrance area. Since these ornamental trees are not very large, they are also perfect for the small front garden. The most popular ball trees are:
- Globosum (Acer platanoides 'Globosum')
Depending on the variety, hardy, robust, undemanding, beautiful autumn colors - Globe cherry (Prunus fruticosa 'Globosa')
hardy, insect friendly, grows very slowly, tolerates heat - Ball Trumpet Tree 'Nana' (Catalpa bignonioides 'Nana')
Grows densely branched, nice shade provider, yellow foliage color in autumn
❺ Container plants for the modern house entrance

Before you plant or select the plants, the question arises as to which flower pots are suitable for a modern house entrance? I have already given you the answer several times in this post: straight and simple! So shabby chic or wicker baskets are taboo, but tall, slender planters in a cone or column shape are ideal. These angular planters fit perfectly into the modern entrance area, according to the experts at VIVANNO, the specialists when it comes to planters.
In order for everything to grow and thrive, the location is of course also important. My suggestions for planting in tubs in the entrance area - divided into sunny and shady locations:
Tub plants for the sun | Pot shade plants |
Magic Bells (Calibrachoa) | Begonias (Begonia) |
Petunias (Petunia) | Chrysanthemums (Chrysanthemum) |
Elven Spur (Diascia) | Sticky Seeds (Pittosporum) |
Hussar Button (Sanvitalia procumbens) | Mexican Orange Flower (Choisya ternata) |
Marguerites (Argyranthemum) | Boxwood (Buxus sempervirens) |
