If you like the refreshing taste of ginger, this recipe is for you. Because we're going to show you how you can make ginger syrup yourself.
In winter it helps with colds and sore throats as a tea, in summer it is a he althy refreshment chilled and it is also an important ingredient in some cocktails: ginger not only gives many Asian dishes a spicy note.
However, you don't always have to process the ginger fresh. You can also use it in the form of syrup in the kitchen and, for example, conjure up a delicious lemonade in no time at all. You only need a few ingredients for the syrup. You can also easily create your own mix. For all those who have never made ginger syrup themselves, here is a simple basic recipe.
Ingredients:
For approx. 1.5 l ginger syrup you need:
- 150 g ginger (peeled)
- 500 ml water
- 250 - 300 g brown sugar (white sugar is also possible)
- Juice of one lemon
- a piece of organic lemon
- 5 g citric acid
Preparation:
1Cut the peeled ginger into large cubes and put them in a saucepan. Then add the water, bring everything to a boil and let the mixture simmer with the lid closed for about 5 to 10 minutes.
2After these 10 minutes, turn off the stove, pour in the lemon juice and place the piece of lemon in the pot. Cover and leave this mixture to infuse overnight.
3The next day you need to strain the ginger and lemon mixture into a large saucepan. Then add the sugar, citric acid and enough water to make 1.5 liters of liquid. Bring everything to the boil while stirring.
4You need to prepare the bottles for bottling. Wash them carefully and then rinse them with hot water. A little tip: Bottles with a capacity of 0.5 to 0.75 l are particularly suitable.
5Once the syrup has boiled, use a funnel to carefully pour it into the still hot bottles and then close them carefully. If stored in a cool, dark place, the syrup will keep for up to 2 months.
