Step 1: Wash the spinach
If you have picked the spinach fresh from the garden, it is often very sandy. You should therefore wash it thoroughly and, above all, several times. It is best to rinse it out properly under running water.
Step 2: Remove stalk
Before you put the spinach in a colander, be sure to remove the bitter stalks and stalk. This becomes very woody during cooking.
Step 3: Steam the spinach
Boil a pot of water and place a strainer or special steamer basket (available here) in the pot. The spinach only takes a few seconds to cook.
Note: Spinach will collapse in half during cooking.
» Tip: If you are cooking potatoes or pasta with the spinach anyway, the steam is sufficient to cook the spinach. You can save yourself an extra pot.
Alternative way
You don't have to steam the spinach, you can bring some s alted water to the boil and briefly steam the spinach in it. The whole thing is refined if you add some onion and garlic to the water.
