Artfully forged metal fence, natural picket fence or would you prefer the practical double rod mat? The garden fence variety is huge these days. We will show you typical garden fence classics and variants that you may not have thought of.
1Classic wooden hunter's fence
The Jägerzaun is one of the classic and well-known garden fences. Unfortunately, you don't see it very often these days, but it harmonises particularly well with old cottage gardens.

2Traditional picket fence
The picket fence with its vertical wooden slats is very traditional and often used. The only disadvantage of the wooden fence: you have to paint it regularly. But then it is protected from the various weather influences and still looks good after many years.
One color is too boring for you???
3Picet Fence with Colorful Faces
How about e.g. funny faces on the wooden slats? Guaranteed nobody in your neighborhood has that.
4Wooden fence made of thick branches or trunks
In the past, the fences on and around old farmhouses were built by the people themselves. This simple type of fence, which is full of charm, is also known from wine growing. Chestnuts are usually used because this wood is weather and rot resistant. Nowadays you can even buy these fences in a slightly modified form with chestnut wood by the meter (e.g. here)
5Fence with Rustic Willow Rods
Of course, willow rods also have a rustic charm and look particularly good in cottage gardens. By the way, you can also make these yourself with a bit of finesse.
6Urban and beautiful: the picket fence
The picket fence is ideal for a natural garden design, because it blends harmoniously into the environment thanks to its natural style. The great thing: depending on the type of wood used for the picket fence, it can last up to 80 years!
7Maritime Picket Fence
In northern regions there is onemaritime idyll. And who says that only the decoration has to be maritime? After all, a fence can also be painted in this style. The two-tone contrast makes the northern character really interesting here.
8Wooden fence with horizontal elements
From classic and maritime to modern. Again a wooden fence, but in this case with horizontal wooden elements. Very modern. Incidentally, the whole thing also looks very attractive when the horizontal elements are alternately attached in different widths.
9Slat fence as privacy and garden fence
Most people know such wooden elements as a privacy screen for areas in the garden, such as terrace borders or the like. These slat fences can also be used as garden fences, as the picture above shows. This way, neighbors and walkers cannot look into your garden.
10Elegant Japanese Style Bamboo Fence
If you lay out your garden in the Japanese style, you cannot avoid a typical fence. This is an elegant bamboo fence. With individual bamboo canes, such as this one, and some wire, you can easily make such bamboo privacy mats yourself.
11Modern gabion garden fence
Gabions have been very trendy for a long time. And so it is hardly surprising that some use the trend to build a fence out of it. And the best? The lattice frames can be filled with different materials. Just give it a try.
12Gabion hedge combination
A real eye-catcher!!! This gabion hedge combination is also a very interesting eye-catcher. The stone look is loosened up a bit by the hedge.
13Gabion fence combination as an eye-catcher
Not only hedges are suitable for combination, but also wood. In this example, the look of horizontal and vertical wooden elements was even played with. Just great!
14Mediterranean flair with a rustic stone wall
Such stone walls are also ideal for shielding yourself from the looks of your neighbors. Natural stones were used in this example, reflecting the popular Mediterranean style.
15Old stone wall in the cottage garden
A very interesting example is this stone wall, which again fits perfectly with an old farmhouse with a cottage garden.
16Stone wall with horizontalwooden elements
A harmonious sight. The combination of wood and stone works particularly well here.
17Rustic stone wall with hanging plants
Fences don't always have to be meters high. If you have the opportunity, you can use a hillside location to plant various hanging plants over the stone wall. Romantic!
18Concrete wall with privacy mats
A different way to fence off your garden - a concrete wall with a privacy mat made of heather rods. The natural protective wall lets the "concrete block" recede into the background. Incidentally, you can get such heather rods already tied as a 3 meter end here on Amazon.
19Metal fence in combination with concrete pillars
Most people probably know this fence variant. Simple concrete pillars connected with metal elements. Behind this you can proudly present your well-tended front garden or, as shown here, plant various plants as additional privacy screens.
20Classic metal fence made of double rod mats
And again a very classic variant. These bar lattice fences, also called double bar mats, offer a simple demarcation of properties. There are matching doors and gates in different sizes, so that everyone is guaranteed to find the right one for themselves.
21Planted Double Rod Panel Fence
If the double rod mat fence looks a little too boring for you, you can also plant it wonderfully. Just put some hedge plants in front of it. It looks nice and the house and yard are optimally protected from strangers.
22Looks very classy: the wrought iron fence
Classy! Wrought fences look particularly luxurious. You're guaranteed to attract the envious looks of your neighbors.
23Wrought fence with clinker pillars
Wrought fences are attached either to metal posts or to pillars made of stone, concrete or clinker. Such pillars as connecting elements in combination with the wrought iron fence panels look particularly beautiful.
24Natural fence made of hedge plants
Who actually says that a fence has to be made of wood, metal or stones? Nobody exactly. Hedge plants can also be used as garden fences. For example the very opaque privet hedge. It just takes a while for them to grow reasonably tall.
25Classic Chain Link Fence
AndFinally, another classic among fences - the chain link fence. Although it is one of the less stable fences, it is often seen on gardens and properties. This may be due to the fact that it is simply cheaper than wrought iron fences and custom-made wooden fences. You can get a classic chain link fence for around 50 euros per 25 meters.
26Typical for Northern Germany: the Friesenwall
A frieze wall is a natural dry stone wall made of boulders. To be precise, the Friesenwall usually even consists of two dry stone walls that face each other at a distance of about 80 centimeters. The space between the walls is then filled and planted. Planting roses is particularly popular.
