If you store fresh melon correctly, you can enjoy the fresh taste and valuable vitamins for longer. We give 3 tips on how to do it.
Melons are indispensable in summer. Whether on the grill or just as a fresh kick on a hot summer's day - they are simply delicious.
Anyone who always buys a whole melon right away naturally wonders how best to store it. After all, the melon should taste just as good on the last day as it did on the first. Of course, this isn't 100% feasible, as sliced fruit naturally spoils faster than fresh. But there are a few tips on how to extend the shelf life.
Store melon correctly - this is how it's done
Tip 1: Store cool
It is best to store the melon in a cool place, this way you can largely avoid the melon becoming shriveled. Cut fruit should also be wrapped in cling film. The piece will keep for a maximum of two to three days.
The best temperatures for optimal storage are 8 to 13 degrees, so the fridge is a little too cold. A cool basement room is more suitable here.
Tip 2: Freeze melon
If you have already cut the melon into small pieces, you can also freeze them. But don't forget that you have to seal them airtight. The melon will keep in the freezer for two to three months.
Tip 3: Eat fresh
It is best if you always eat the melon fresh. In this way, all the vitamins and the taste are retained. You can also buy halves and even quarters of melons in the supermarket. So shop as you need them.
