Whether in one color or with a pattern - if you want to protect yourself from prying eyes on the balcony, you need a privacy screen. 8 model variants are presented here.
Not everyone has their own garden where they can spend their free time and enjoy the sun in spring and summer. But a balcony can also be a great place to relax if you are undisturbed there. Especially in the cities, the houses are usually very close together, so that you are not safe from the looks of your neighbors on the balcony.
But that doesn't have to be the case, because after all you can simply attach a privacy screen to the balcony and then enjoy your peace and quiet. The range of options is huge. However, if you know in which direction you need a privacy screen, then the selection is a little easier. Here are some variations for different directions.
Privacy protection on one side
Variant 1 - Set up a screen:
A complete privacy screen around the entire balcony is not always necessary. All too quickly you feel somehow constrained. Sometimes a privacy screen on a certain side is enough. An erected screen, for example, is completely sufficient and offers the simplest solution.
Variant 2 - Use plants as a privacy screen:
One very simple option is to plant higher-growing plants in flower boxes, which you can then hang on the side of the balcony railing. Of course, you can do the same with potted plants that you place on the ground.
Variant 3 - Green trellis:
Alternatively, you can also green a trellis. The privacy screen then looks particularly natural. You can also find individual elements made of plastic or wood in specialist shops that you can set up as privacy screens. Some models can also be planted here.
Tip:
Pipevines, for example, are very suitable for planting. Our reading tips: Planting pipe bindweed - Optimal privacy and colorful facade greening.
Variant 4 - attach side awning:
A slightly more expensive solution is to attach a side oneAwning, which can then be opened or unfolded like a fan. However, you have to drill holes in the facade of the house to ensure sufficient stability.
Important:
If you rent an apartment, it is important to always ask your landlord for permission before doing this.

Variant 5 - Attach tarpaulin to the railing:
If you want to keep people out of the street, i.e. from below, then you should opt for a tarpaulin that you have to attach to the balcony cladding all the way around and that reaches to the ground. There are extra eyelets on the tarpaulin for this purpose, through which you only have to pull a cord. You can then use this to attach the privacy screen to the railing of your balcony. The great thing: With this variant you also have good protection against the wind.
Variant 6 - Attach straw mat to the railing:
You can also use a low straw mat as a privacy screen if your balcony faces the street. The mats can be cut to the desired length and easily attached to the railing with string or cable ties.

Variant 7 - Attach awning:
Sometimes you also want to prevent residents from looking at your own from the balcony above. So you need a shield towards the top. The safest method is to install an awning that you can extend as needed.
Important:
However, since you have to drill into the facade in this case, you must first obtain permission from your landlord!
Variant 8 - Set up a parasol:
A cheaper and easier option is to put up a large parasol. You don't have to damage the facade for this and you can simply stretch it if necessary. At the same time, you also have good sun protection.
