Unfortunately, mold on strawberries takes away the joy of harvesting these sweet fruits. But you can fight mold with our three tips.
We all love to eat them: strawberries. All winter and half of spring we look forward to the strawberries finally being ripe from mid-May, rush there and want to snack, but are severely disappointed. Because mold has often formed on the strawberries. Why is that? The gray mold is to blame. It is already established on the flower and then appears during growth. The reasons are mostly wetness and not enough air.
And this is how you can remedy it:
- Thin out the strawberries, some of which will multiply uncontrollably.
- Feel free to throw away cuttings or plant them in another bed.
- The strawberry plants should be a little higher so that they get enough air.
If you then mulch, nothing can go wrong. This is done with strawberries with the help of straw. A layer under the plants prevents fruit from lying directly on the ground. If you take these three tips to heart, you'll soon have delicious, mold-free strawberries again.
