Tip 1 - Black Earth
Specialist shops offer a special burial soil for the cemetery, which is deep black and thus ensures a very aesthetic grave appearance. For this reason, the very nutrient-rich soil is mostly mixed with black peat soil. In late autumn you should spread fresh grave soil generously over the graves so that the few plants can be shown off to their best advantage.
Tip 2 - Ornamental shrubs
Ideally, you should plant large grave sites with ornamental shrubs, which often come up with colorful berries on cold winter days. You can also plant evergreen plants such as box and small conifers on the graves.
If you cultivate a winter jasmine in your own garden, you can decorate flowering branches in a cemetery vase from time to time. The flowers of the sedum can also usually be used for the grave well into December.
Tip 3 - Winter plants
It is extremely difficult to create a blooming grave in winter due to the cold and frost. Heather perennials, which can even defy some frosts, are popular. In the meantime, heather perennials are offered in different pink and violet flower colors as well as with white flowers. You can also use these heather perennials in the garden in a well-protected location, possibly covered with brushwood, and move them to the cemetery grave if necessary.
Planting noble Christmas roses on the graves, which even come up with beautiful, white blossoms on cold winter days, is ideal.Christmas roses can be combined with snowdrops and crocuses.
Tip 4 - Natural arrangements
Natural arrangements can also be made for the winter grave design. You can collect the materials you need for this in your own garden. First and foremost, fir greens and fresh or dried cones, artichoke blossoms, small ornamental gourds, walnuts, dried lantern flowers and the like are needed. A well-dried root, which you can use again and again for several years, can serve as the basis for a natural grave arrangement. If you pierce a large nail in the middle, you can even place candles on it.
