Every (hobby) gardener should know that plants and shrubs in the garden need fertilizer from time to time. But before you start and get expensive, chemical fertilizer from the garden department in the hardware store, try out alternative home remedies. One possibility for this are egg shells, which are left over from our daily breakfast and only end up in the compost or in the compost bin anyway.

First of all, patience is called for, because if you don't have eggs on your daily menu, you have to collect them for a while. To avoid unpleasant smells in the kitchen, it is best to use a container with a lid.
Step 1
The eggshells must not be placed on the ground whole. For grinding, you need a kitchen board, a meat tenderizer (or similar) and a cloth.
Step 2
Place the eggshells on the board, place the cloth over them and tap them lightly.
Step 3
Then put the crushed egg shells in the irrigation water.
Step 4
Now leave this brew for several days.
» Rule of thumb: The shells of 2 to 3 eggs in 1 liter of water.
But be careful: The eggshells don't come off completely. Therefore, only water the soil (not the plant from above). Coarse pieces of eggshell can be removed by hand.
Why are egg shells good fertilizers?
The homemade eggshell fertilizer can be used for all plants in the garden. It contains the very important nutrient lime. With the lime there are also other nutrients, such as calcium and magnesium, in the irrigation water. How high the respective proportion is depends on the quality of your tap water on site.
