Sowing plants can sometimes be quite a tedious task. After all, we have to bend down or kneel, work our way forward bit by bit and sometimes do a germination test beforehand. If you want to make it easier to sow seeds, you can also use practical seed tapes, seed discs and the like, which ensure that seeds are evenly distributed and always with the correct planting distance.

In this article we would like to introduce you to the four sowing options called seed tape, seed disc, seed carpet and seed plate and also tell you how to use them correctly.

4 ways of seed sowing presented

❍ Option 1 - seed tapes:

Seed tapes are primarily used for sowing vegetables and herbs, but also for flowers. The retailer places the individual seeds on the seed tape in such a way that they can already grow at the right distance from one another. The seed tapes can also be cut to the desired lengths. The advantage of this is that you only sow as much seed as you then need for plants.

Another advantage: there is a kind of protective film on the top of the seed tape so that birds, among other things, cannot peck the seed out of the ground. So you don't have to wonder why the seed doesn't sprout. Incidentally, while the seed grows, the environmentally friendly seed paper rots into humus on its own.

➥ Application:

You simply have to lay the seed tape in the ground (possibly prepare a suitable seed furrow in the bed for this purpose) and cover it with an even layer of soil, depending on the variety. The sowing of carrots, cabbage, radishes and the like is done.

❍ Option 2 - seed carpets:

Seed carpets are mostly offered with flower, lettuce and vegetable seeds. You can also purchase these in different sizes. The majority ofHowever, you can easily cut carpets of seeds that are already covered with seeds to the dimensions that prevail in your garden.

➥ Application:

The handling of the seed carpets is the same as that of seed tapes, only that larger areas are equipped with it. You also have to place the seed mats in a kind of furrow and then cover them evenly with fresh soil.

❍ Option 3 - seed discs:

Round seed discs are preferred when sowing herbs in pots. However, you can also use the seed discs in outdoor beds, for example to create colorful flower arrangements in an absolutely geometric shape.

➥ Application:

Fill the pots with soil, place the seed disc in them and then cover them with soil. Then moisten the seed regularly! Then place a pane of glass over the pot during the first growth phase, then the Keimgut will usually grow faster.
