WPC decking boards need regular impregnation to keep their positive properties. To ensure that nothing goes wrong, here are a few instructions.
The decking boards made of WPC (Wood-Plastic-Compound) are relatively undemanding and easy to care for, which is due to the high proportion of plastic. They do not have to be constantly oiled or painted with wood preservative stains.
However, so that they do not lose their positive material properties such as moisture resistance and stability so quickly, you cannot avoid regular impregnation. This also serves primarily to protect against dirt and signs of aging.
We would like to explain step by step how to impregnate the wood-plastic composite material.
Accessories:
You need:
- Bucket with lukewarm water
- WPC cleaning agent
- Wipe
- WPC waterproofing agent
- Paint Roller or Brush
- Paint Pan or Flat Pan
- Funnel
- kitchen paper
» Prepare the decking boards
To ensure maximum effectiveness of the waterproofing agent, you must thoroughly clean the planks before application. Fill a bucket with lukewarm water and, for heavily soiled planks, add some WPC cleaning agent (available here for less than 20 euros) according to the manufacturer's recommended dosage.
Spread the water or wash solution liberally over the floorboards with a cloth. Then loosen the surface dirt using a scrubber or a brush. The dirt loosened in this way can be easily picked up with the cloth. After cleaning, wait for the deck to dry completely.
» Impregnating WPC planks
Now put the impregnation (my recommendation: Greenwood protective impregnation colorless) in a paint tub or a flat bowl. You can use a wide paintbrush or paint roller to apply. The brush is a better choice if the surface of your planks is textured and has significant indentations. KeepWhen it comes to the amount of product to be applied, follow the basic rule: “No dry patches, no stagnant liquid”.
Watch how quickly the WPC absorbs the impregnation. If there is no more moisture to be seen after five to seven minutes, the planks are still absorbent and you can apply a second thin layer.
» Tip: When impregnating the planks, work backwards so that you do not step on or kneel on the still damp surface.
» Let the impregnation agent take effect
The floorboards should be completely dry 20 to 25 minutes after the last application. If residues of the impregnating agent are left, the substrate is already completely saturated. You can easily remove these residues with some kitchen paper. Pour any impregnating agent left in the paint tray or bowl back into the sales container using a funnel.
» Very important: keep an eye on the weather
The entire process of cleaning and impregnating WPC decking should take place in a dry place. It shouldn't rain the next day either. Therefore, keep an eye on the weather report to choose a perfect day for the important maintenance of your WPC deck. We wish you every success!
