Create a garden pond - step by step instructions
Creating a garden pond is no longer rocket science these days. With just a few steps, you can set everything you need in motion, because there are plenty of high-quality products in specialist shops that can be helpful. Here are a few step-by-step instructions on how to create a garden pond.
Step 1:
First of all, of course, it is important to find the best spot in the garden for the pond. This should be selected so that you can see it well from the terrace, for example, and enjoy the water later. It also makes sense not to place the pond directly next to deciduous trees, otherwise you will always have problems with the leaves falling from the trees afterwards.
Step 2:
Once the ideal location has been found, it's practically time to get to work. The pit must be dug and prepared accordingly. Depending on the size of the planned garden pond, you can do the excavation with a shovel and spade or a small excavator.
Then be sure to remove everything that could damage the pond liner. So stones, roots, wood, etc…
Step 3:
As a "foundation" you should now bring a 10 - 15 cm thick layer of sand into the pit and tamp it down. This layer of sand is the basis foryour pond. The pond liner is laid out on top of this.
Step 4:
Now the pond liner comes into play. There are pond liners with thicknesses of 0.3 - 1.5 mm. I have had very good experiences with 1mm thick foil. It is stable and can still be laid very easily.

Very important: The liner should protrude approx. 50 - 60 cm over the edge of the pond. You then use this edge to fasten the film with garden soil and stones.
Step 5:
Now place up to 5 cm of gravel on the pond liner. This is your pond bottom. You can then let the water into the pond and add plants.

Once the pond has been laid out, you now have to take care of the equipment that will eventually find its place in the pond.
