Landscapes like the Lüneburg Heath magically attract many people because of their beauty. But you too can easily create a heather garden.
Create Heath Garden
The beauty of heather is incomparable and despite the often sparse plants, heather is a real eye-catcher - even in the garden. If you don't just want to plant an occasional heather and also have enough space, then lay out your heather garden generously. It also comes into its own on several levels.
Note ground conditions
Heather needs acidic soil with a low pH. If this is below 5, ideally if it is above 6 you should change the soil to 40 cm or work with a lot of peat. It is best to plant heather in September or October, and then again in April and May. It should not be planted after October as heather that is not properly established is susceptible to frost. A sunny location is required.
Planting and tending heather
If you have strong growing plants, plant them more loosely and give them more space to spread out. You can place small plants closer together. Heather needs to be cut once a year to develop a pretty bloom as well. Cutting summer flowering plants after winter, mid-March to mid-April, is ideal. You should cut off the winter bloomers immediately after they have bloomed. A little more organic fertilizer at regular intervals and you will be able to enjoy your heather to the fullest.
