Muddy water, insects and leaves on the surface - nobody wants to climb into a pool like this. Constant cleaning is essential for a clean pool.

Water is life. Of course, this also applies to the water in your own pool. However, there should not be too much life in the pool water, because germs, viruses and bacteria are also living beings. In addition, other inputs from the environment, such as dust, leaves, pollen or insects, can be found in a swimming pool in a very short time. Without effective cleaning, the pool with crystal-clear water will quickly turn into a biotope overflowing with life with a rather greenish tinge.

What can be done about it?

There are a number of different ways to keep pool water clear and the pool itself clean. However, there is no such thing as a "magic bullet" that just throws it in the bowl and all is well. There are also no individual devices that can clean the pool all by themselves. Even the pool robot is on a losing battle on its own. Rather, pool cleaning is a combination of different methods, although of course it depends on the volume that needs to be managed. Small paddling pools are best cleaned by wiping down the kids' pool with water and a little detergent between water changes. From about 3000 liters capacity, the use of filter pumps is interesting.

Water circulation and filtering pumps

Because a swimming pool lacks the inflow and outflow of natural water to help clean it, a filter pump mimics this. There are pump-filter combinations that work with a filter fleece in the form of a cartridge, for example. Up to a certain volume, these systems are quite sufficient, but for larger amounts of water it is necessary to use pumps with higher performance and a more effective filter. There are, for example, sand filter systems in different performance classes.

In sand filter systems, the pool water to be cleaned is pressed through a layer of quartz sand, whereby even the smallest particles get caught. The water, which is now crystal clear again, returns to the pool. As a rule of thumb, the volume of pool water during theTo be completely circulated twice a day during bathing operations. Accordingly, the pump of the sand filter system must be able to deliver the corresponding performance.

Mechanical cleaning of the pool

A pool has a large surface on which the pollution from the air first lands and, depending on its weight, floats, at least for the first time. These floating solids are easy to skim off with a skimmer. The skimmer floats in the pool and has an inlet close to the water surface. At the lower end it is connected to the circulation pump or has its own pump. Together with the surface water, the solids flow to the skimmer and are filtered out in it.

Despite a skimmer, the use of a landing net will also be essential to get fallen leaves out of the water or simply the toy that the children forgot in the pool. Buildup on the pool walls and floor can be removed with an appropriate brush or with the aforementioned pool robot.

Chemical / electrotechnical cleaning of the garden pool

There are various methods of reducing the bacterial load in the water. For example, UV filtering or the use of hydrogen peroxide or activated carbon filters. The problem here is that these funds only work to a limited extent and are quite expensive. Chlorine is still the best chemical cleaning agent for pool water with the greatest broad spectrum effect. While there is much talk about the dangers of this substance, it should be remembered that highly diluted chlorine has been used in millions of public and private pools around the world for several decades. History has shown that when used correctly, chlorine is the best and most effective way to disinfect pool water.

Pool cleaning precautions

The best dirt is that which doesn't need to be removed. People can do a lot to keep the pool water clean. For example, using a pool cover during the night and on days when there is no swimming. But showering before swimming also helps a lot to maintain the water quality. This is not about the possibly neglected hygiene of the individual. Rather, it is about urea, which even the cleanest person forms on their skin. These ureas react in the water and form new chemical compounds. That's why it's better to take a shower before refreshing in the pool. Even excessive amounts of sunscreen do not get into the water unnecessarily. You should also consider a few aspects when youwant to winterize the pool.

At the same time, the feet should be cleaned before entering the pool using a special foot bath at the edge of the pool. The soles of bare feet account for a significant portion of the debris that can get into the pool, such as grass or sand. If these precautionary measures are observed and the pool is also regularly cleaned and disinfected, nothing should stand in the way of extended bathing pleasure.
