The scent of vanilla not only reminds us of baking. He also makes us dream of exotic places. If you like, you can bring this scent into the garden with the cinnamon alder.
Everyone likes to smell vanilla. Men in particular should like this smell in women very much. But even so, the scent of vanilla is just wonderful. For example, it brings back childhood memories. Just smell some vanilla and close your eyes. Then don't you see yourself baking cookies as a child? For others, however, the scent awakens a longing for sun, sand and sea.If you like this scent and can't get enough of it, then the cinnamon alder should definitely not be missing in your garden. It is certainly a contradiction in terms: even if the plant is called cinnamon alder, it neither smells of cinnamon nor is it a tree. But it smells wonderfully like vanilla. And what's more, she looks very special.

What does the cinnamon alder look like?
The cinnamon alder is a high-growing bush that bears panicles of flowers up to 15 centimeters long from July to September. These can bloom white or pink. Visually, the fragrant bush looks like the Buddleja (butterfly tree). The bush itself can grow up to 3 meters high! Just imagine how that must smell. A dream, right?
This is what the perfect location for the cinnamon alder looks like
If you want to bring the cinnamon alder into your garden, think about a good spot. Right next to the terrace, for example, is ideal, as this is where the aroma comes into its own. Never place several aromatic plants next to each other. Although the cinnamon alder harmonises visually with other aromatic plants, but the smells can get in the way.
The cinnamon alder, also known as the silver candle bush, prefers a partially shaded location on moist soil. And it is precisely this that should have a pH value between 4.5 and 7, i.e. it should be acidic. If the pH is wrong, you have to help with fertilizer. You can easily test the pH of the soil in your garden. Here is a video guide to it. Furthermore, the soil in your garden must be sandy-loamy if you want cinnamon alder to thrive well in it.
Zimterlen are very easy to care for
Zimterlen are one thing above all: easy to care for. So they are perfect plants for anyone who doesn't have a green thumb. You only have to pay attention to this during maintenance:
Casting:
You only have to water the cinnamon alder when the summer is very hot and dry. Then watering is even very important because the plant does not tolerate drought.
Pruning:
You don't actually have to cut back the cinnamon alder. However, it is advisable to thin out the plant slightly in March. Only if you want to rejuvenate the shrub should you prune it back radically.
Hiberation:
The cinnamon alder is very hardy. So if you planted them in the garden, you don't need to protect them from the cold. If you have planted the cinnamon alder in a bucket, it is advisable to wrap the bucket with some winter protection fleece. The cold can eventually get through the vessel to the roots and damage them.
