Increasingly, you can even find blue or black roses in the shops. However, these are not complex new breeds, but man has simply played a trick on nature, because roses can be colored in just a few simple steps. You can even easily imitate this at home.
How to dye roses?
Basically, a lot is possible. First of all, however, the flower color should be determined. Here you have to distinguish between monochrome and colorful roses. The technique is a bit different here, but we'll get to that later.
Once you have determined the color you want, you then have to decide on a method. For example, roses can be colored by dipping them in paint, spraying them with paint, or soaking them in paint. The latter method has prevailed and will therefore also be described below. If the rose has the opportunity to soak up color, the most colorful specimens are produced and the coloring of colorful roses can also be implemented.
By placing the rose in a container with colored water, the liquid gets into all parts of the plant and ultimately causes the petals to become soaked as well, giving them an intense and even colour.
What can you dye roses with?
There are several ways to do this. All of the following remedies provide satisfactory results. Anything that pleases is allowed:
❍ Ink:
Ink has a strong hue and promises intense color results. Everyone can determine the intensity of the coloring themselves. Simply leave the rose in the color water until the desired shade is achieved. Ink is by no means only available in black or blue, but there is a choicestill remains limited.
❍ Food Coloring/Watercolor:
If you decide to use water color or food coloring, you will be able to try different shades. It is also interesting, for example, to use different nuances of a color to create a nicely shaded flower head. If you mix the water or food coloring, you can also dye several roses in different shades. This creates extraordinary bouquets for a wide variety of occasions.
Select the right rose
If you want to dye roses yourself, you will have a hard time choosing a naturally intensely colored rose. A deep red rose can hardly be transformed into a pastel-colored delicate flower. It can then be dyed black at most. If you want to play with the different colors and test the possibilities of this dyeing technique, then it is best to choose white roses as the starting material. If no white roses are available, you can also switch to soft pink flower heads.
If you want darker colors, yellow roses should also deliver satisfactory results. However, it will then probably take longer until the desired color is achieved.

Instructions for single color roses
❖ Step 1:
First you need to fill the provided vase or glass about 3/4 full with water.
❖ Step 2:
Now you will have to experiment a bit until you get the desired color result. Don't skimp on watercolour. If the paint box does not contain the color you want, you must mix it yourself.
You should also always use plenty of ink, unless you prefer a light coloring of the flower veins. This can be quite appealing when using dark colors.
Tip:
Ink cartridges can also be used. For a water glass you will need to use several to achieve an intense color result.
❖ Step 3:
Now you need to prepare the rose for coloring. It should always be a fresh and strong rose that absorbs the color well. You also need to trim the cut flowers properly so that they absorb the color well. Therefore the stem of the roses is bestalways shorten to a maximum length of 20 centimeters. Work with a sharp knife so that the cutting edge does not fray. Cut the stem diagonally so that as much water as possible can be transported.
Tip:
Always remove all leaves on the stem so that the liquid does not evaporate unnecessarily but is transported directly to the flower.
❖ Step 4:
Now place the prepared rose in the colored water. The handle should be completely surrounded by the liquid. A color change is then already visible after a few minutes. However, an intense coloring can only be achieved if you leave the rose in the colored water for a few hours. So now it's time to wait. When the rose is the color you want, all you have to do is place it back in a vase of clear water.
Instructions for Multicolored Roses (Rainbow Roses)
Rainbow roses are very special. After all, it's not every day that you see colorful rose blossoms. The great thing: you can even create roses like this yourself at home! It is best to use strong roses here, because with rainbow roses you have to cut the stem several times, which is very easy with strong flowers.
❖ Step 1:
Multicolored roses are always real eye-catchers and at the same time raise a few questions. How is it possible that almost every petal has a different color? Very easily! You do not prepare a glass as described, but the desired number of vessels according to the color you want. With two or three colors, the principle still works quite well. If you want to experiment with other colors, it is better to use test tubes.
❖ Step 2:
Now cut the stem of the rose several times. The incisions should each reach to the middle of the stem and correspond to the number of colored glasses prepared. Each individual stem section is then always placed in a separate colored jar.
❖ Step 3:
Then place the rose in the first test tube with colored water. When the water is used up, it is refilled until the petals have taken on the desired colour. It won't be long before you'll be able to watch each leaf change color.
❖ Step 4:
Then the rose comes up to the second incision in the next test tube with another color of your choice. And so on.
❖ Step 5:
Again, when the desired coloring has been achieved, comethe stalk section from color water back to clear water.
This is how colored roses stay fresh for longer
❁ You should always use fresh flowers so that you can enjoy your colored roses for as long as possible.
❁ You should also not place the bouquet of roses in direct sunlight, because the sunlight quickly fades the color of the flowers.
❁ If you treat the roses with hairspray after coloring and dry the flowers, you will be able to enjoy the flower heads you have colored yourself for a very long time. You can also preserve your self-dyed roses with a mixture of glycerine and water.
