Mangetout are easy to care for
Although sugar snap peas can usually only be bought in really well-stocked vegetable shops, their cultivation is widespread throughout Europe, North America and also in parts of Africa and India. One reason why you should also grow this relatively easy-care vegetable in your garden.
It is small children in particular who love the sweet taste of green and blue sugar snap peas and therefore like to grab this extremely he althy vegetable. And that's really good, because sugar snap peas - also known as sugar snap peas - have a high content of fiber, minerals, folic acid, various vitamins and vegetable proteins.
We would now like to explain to you how you can grow sweet peas and what you should pay attention to.
Growing mangetout - How it's done
Sowing
As a rule, sugar snap peas are only sown in a sunny garden bed from the end of April (possible up to the end of June/beginning of July) as they are very sensitive to frost. You should let the seeds soak in water for a day, as this increases their ability to germinate.
When sowing, you must then make a groove four to five centimeters deep in the soil that is as sandy as possible (possibly add cactus soil or sand beforehand) - distance approx. 30 centimeters to the next groove - in which you can then spread the seed thinly . Then you have to fill the grooves with soil again, press down lightly and water.
» Tip:
If you want to fill several grooves with seed, you should keep an interval of about 2 weeks if possible. Because this significantly extends the harvest time of the sugar peas, which means that fresh vegetables are always available to you.
In the meantime, sugar snap peas for the balcony (pot farming) are also available in garden stores. However, you have to make sure that you water the plants regularly.
Care
From a growth height of approx. 10 centimetres, some Kefe varieties need oneClimbing aid to support their growth. For this purpose you should put thin wooden sticks between the rows at a distance of about 50 centimeters and enclose them with a wire mesh. You can then attach the mangetout to this braid.
It usually takes only 3 to 4 months from sowing to harvest. You don't have to fertilize the sugar snap peas during this time if you provided the garden bed with compost in the previous year (never in the growing year).
Harvest
You can harvest the sweet peas when the pea fruits are visible inside the pod (shell).
Important: You should know that you have to process the mangetout immediately after harvesting. Otherwise it can happen that they take on a bitter taste.
You can either eat the mangetout raw, e.g. in salads, or fry it as a vegetable in a pan and season with just a little s alt.

Simply prepare green and blue mangetout with carrots. It tastes really good!
