Stone fruit includes, for example, cherries, peaches, plums and also plums. Like all other fruits, stone fruit is not immune to diseases and pests. We would like to introduce you to 5 diseases and pests:
- Plum moth: The fruit should always be opened before eating, because the plum moth is a worm that eats through the flesh of the fruit. If you put corrugated cardboard catching belts around the trunk, you can prevent the caterpillars from getting into the tree crown in autumn. Infested fruit should be disposed of immediately.
- Cherry fruit flies: These are white maggots that nest in the cherry and eat the pulp. To avoid infestation, early varieties are suitable. You must destroy infected fruit. Additionally, cherry fruit fly traps can also help.
- Curl disease: This fungus occurs mainly on peaches in April and May. It besieges the leaves and causes them to cripple. Affected shoots should be removed. Plant hardier varieties.
- Frost moth: The large, green caterpillars eat the leaves and flower buds from spring. A tree coat will help reduce the winter moth's shelter opportunities. In the fall you should attach caterpillar glue rings.
- Aphids: Aphids also occur on stone fruit trees. They suck on the leaves and excrete honeydew. Affected shoots and branches must be removed from a large area.
