Growing aubergines - How it's done

Anonim

Have you always wanted to grow eggplants? Many have been bitterly disappointed trying to plant them in the garden.

Aubergines are spoiled by heat
No wonder, because in our latitudes aubergines grow very poorly in the wild. The reason is that they love warmth. They originally come from India and are therefore spoiled by the warmth. That's why you shouldn't just plant or sow them in our garden, but place them in the greenhouse. There they thrive as one would expect from a nightshade plant.

Growing aubergines
If you ensure a constant room temperature of 25 degrees in your greenhouse, you can hardly go wrong. You just have to be careful to water the aubergines well, but only from below - as is usual with the tomatoes. By the way, you should sow them in January, because aubergines take a long time to germinate. Also keep in mind that the plants can grow up to 1.50 meters high and very sprawling. Tie the plants in time to prevent them from falling over and leave enough space between each plant.

Fertilize aubergine plants
Since the aubergine needs many important nutrients, you should regularly supply it with a natural fertilizer such as nettle manure and compost. You can then harvest the club-shaped, dark purple aubergines in late summer. However, only harvest the aubergines when they are 20 centimeters long. By the way, aubergines also ripen afterwards.
